They say home is where the heart is, but who doesn’t love a good road trip?
When it comes to the Hyundai A-League, travel is a fact of life.
So who’s done well on the road and who has endured the away-day blues?
We’ve crunched the Opta stats to find out.
Sydney FC are by far the most successful Hyundai A-League side away from home, winning eight and losing just one of their ten away matches, keeping seven clean sheets in the process.
Nine of Bobo’s 21 goals this season have come away from Allianz Stadium, while Sydney FC team-mate Michael Zullo has provided six away assists, more than any other player.
The Jets have also done well on their travels, picking up points in eight of their ten away games, chalking up five wins and three draws. However, they’ve kept only one clean sheet in those ten matches.
Both Melbourne sides and Adelaide United have won five away matches, but the Reds have also lost four times on the road.
Wellington and Central Coast have found travelling the hardest in 2017/18, each winning just once away from their respective home bases.
The Mariners though have at least managed five away draws, but Wellington have lost eight of their 11 away clashes. The only side with more losses on the road are Perth with nine.
The Sky Blues average 2.2 goals per away game while the Jets are the only other side to average two goals per game on the road.
The Phoenix have managed just 0.5 goals per game when playing away, even though they average the same number of shots per away game (8.8) as Sydney FC.
Adelaide United fire off the most shots when they’re away with 11.3 per game, but they average just 1.2 goals in those games.
Ross McCormack produced a goal-per-game strike-rate during his time with Melbourne City, scoring seven goals in as many away matches.
Perth Glory – who have to endure the most travel miles of any of the Hyundai A-League sides – are the only side yet to keep a clean sheet in an away match this season.
