Western United have demonstrated a towering level of ambition during their inaugural Hyundai A-League campaign so far.
While the league’s new boys have been making all the right noise, the Green and Black backed that up by defeating four-time Champions of Australia, Melbourne Victory, last Saturday.
That was the first meeting between the two Melbourne clubs but United’s thrilling 3-2 comeback win is a result destined to live forever in the hearts and minds of fans.
It should also, as United boss Mark Rudan declared after the match, be the start of new rivalry between Marco Kurz’s Hyundai A-League heavyweights based in Melbourne’s city centre, and the new boys from the city’s western suburbs.

Of course, United and Victory are not the only clubs vying to be the best in Victoria’s capital, and indeed the country.
Melbourne City, based in the northern suburbs, also boast ambitions of conquering Australia’s second most populous city.
After pushing the reset button in the off-season, the club have made a good start under Erick Mombaerts and beat United 2-1 in Round 3.
The 2019/20 season looms as one in which lasting rivalries will be formed for the Hyundai A-League’s newest team. But what should these special matches be called?
