Westfield W-League Save of the Semi Finals: Jada Whyman, chosen by Casey Dumont

Jada Whyman’s impressive stop to keep Nicki Flannery off the scoresheet and retain Sydney FC’s clean sheet against Canberra United in a 3-0 win has earned Save of the Semi Finals honours from Casey Dumont.

Whyman kept out Flannery’s close-range shot from a tight angle after her Sky Blues teammate Rachel Lowe sent an errant pass back into her defensive box, inviting the Canberra speedster onto the ball.

But Whyman stood tall to keep the resulting attempt out. With Sydney leading 1-0 at the time, it was a monumental moment in the game which ultimately helped the Premiers on their way to victory, and Sunday afternoon’s Grand Final.

“It is a really good deflection save,” Dumont said.

“She closes the range between her and Nicki Flannery. She also gets down low, and it’s a great reaction after it goes through her legs.

“It keeps her on a clean sheet, but also in a Semi Final those crucial saves really can change the dynamics of a team’s performance.

“Jada really stepped up when she needed to in that scenario.”
