Lily Alfeld’s incredible fingertip save to deny Adelaide United striker Emily Condon earned the Perth Glory goalkeeper the Save of Round 3 gong on her Westfield W-League debut.
The New Zealand shot-stopper made a series of stunning saves before she was finally beaten by Condon’s 80th-minute penalty as the Reds edged to a 1-0 victory over Glory in the Western Australian outfit’s season opener.
And the 25-year-old’s finest save of the day at Marden Sports Complex arrived in the 22nd minute when Condon took aim with a fizzing half-volley from the edge of the away side’s penalty area.
Alfeld launched herself full-length across goal and, with her outstretched right hand, made enough contact to divert the ball over the crossbar in an outstanding display of athleticism and fast reactions.
