Westfield W-League Save of Round 14: Lily Alfeld, chosen by Casey Dumont

Perth Glory goalkeeper Lily Alfeld ended the Westfield W-League regular season on a high, taking out Save of the Round honours in the final round of the campaign.

Casey Dumont awarded Alfeld the honours for her close-range stop to deny Melbourne City forward Chinatsu Kira.

The Glory ‘keeper got down low to block Kira’s effort away from goal, before a pair of Perth defenders got in on the act to keep resulting shots from piercing the back of the net.

“Lily has to come out close-range, diving towards the ground as well as trying to make herself big,” Dumont said.

“Because of how close this is to the goal she needs to minimise the area that the striker has for that strike.

“Not only is it a great goalkeeper save, it’s also a team save: first save by the goalkeeper, second by the defender and then third again by the defender.”
