Westfield W-League Save of Round 12: Georgina Worth, chosen by Casey Dumont

Georgina Worth’s clutch save to deny Adelaide United an equaliser in Brisbane’s 4-2 win caught the eye of Casey Dumont, who awarded the Roar stopper Save of Round 12 honours for her ‘five-point block’.

Brisbane went on to clinch a comfortable victory to strengthen their grip on second spot, but at 2-1 Worth’s crucial intervention kept Adelaide from drawing level at 2-2, turning the momentum in her side’s favour.

Chelsie Dawber had created the chance for Isobel Hodgson to go one-on-one with Worth, but the goalkeeper got out quickly to quell the danger and keep her side in front.

“(Worth) reads the ball really well when the ball is played into the striker,” Dumont said.

“She comes and straight away closes the space between her and the striker, not only that… once the striker is about to (shoot) she makes herself big and into a block.

“We call that a five-point block in a one-one-one scenario, and (Worth) does this amazingly.

“She gets one knee positioned down, the other leg in a bent position to kind of make a wall. She also spreads her arms as well, so the ball will hit any part of her body.

“In that scenario it does, and it helps obviously prevent a one-on-one goal.”
