We’re just days away from the 2017/18 Westfield W-League Grand Final and we’re continuing our look back at what unfolded in the biggest match of the season over the last nine years.
It’s the Season Three decider first up today in what was a rematch of the previous campaign’s grand final.
But this time it would be Roar who would prevail to seal their second championship in three seasons.
More than 1000 fans braved wet conditions at Campbelltown Stadium to see if the Sky Blues could go back-to-back.
But the visitors made the quicker start, going in front inside 10 minutes when Tameka Butt got on the end of Lana Harch’s perfect cross to head home.
It was the third straight season Butt had scored on the final day of the season and she would go on to be the star performer of the match for Brisbane.
The early goal seemed to shock Sydney FC into action and they hit back 11 minutes before the break.
And it was a cracking goal too with Sky Blues skipper Kylie Ledbrook hitting a shot from distance which was too much for keeper Casey Dumont to keep out.
In a blow to Roar minutes from half-time, Harch was forced off with an ankle injury, replaced by Westfield Matildas star Lisa De Vanna.
It was end-to-end action after the break with both sides creating gilt-edged scoring chances.
In the end, it would be [now Sky Blues star] De Vanna who would break Sydney FC hearts.
Midway through the second half, De Vanna showed her quality as she got clear and slid the ball past keeper Dimitra Tsiliaskopoulos to clinch the championship for Brisbane.
