Westfield W-League Goal of the Semi Finals: Ally Green, chosen by Joey Peters

Sydney FC full-back Ally Green launched herself into Westfield W-League Finals Series folklore in a Semi Final clash with Canberra United on Monday afternoon, sending a 30-yard thunderbolt into the top corner to help the Sky Blues on their way to victory.

Former Westfield Matildas midfielder Joey Peters had no issues awarding the outrageous attempt Goal of the Semi Finals honours. Green set up the chance to score by charging through midfield with the ball, surprising everyone watching on as she elected to dispatch a left-footed strike from an ambitious distance.

But the shot was struck truly, and the ball sailed directly into the top-left corner of goal. Green’s magnificent effort put the Sky Blues 3-0 ahead of Canberra United, quelling any hope of a comeback and booking Sydney a place in the Grand Final against Melbourne Victory.

“Ally Green from Sydney FC – don’t you love seeing a defender charge forward to intercept the ball?” Peters said.

“She glided past a defender, from 30 yards out is thinking ‘I can score here’ and unleashes and absolute pearler, fading away into the top corner leaving the keeper with no chance.

“It was a glorious moment in W-League history.”
