Rhianna Pollicina netted her first W-League goal in style to ignite the Newcastle Jets and, although the superb lob did not quite inspire a comeback, it did take out Goal of the Round honours.
Melbourne Victory had ran up a 3-0 lead in the first half against Ash Wilson’s Hunter-based outfit before Tara Andrews gave the away side a glimmer of hope three minutes after the restart.
With the momentum building in Newcastle’s favour, Pollicina seized her moment to race on to Tessa Tamplin’s searching pass and deliver an outstanding lofted effort which soared over the head of a stranded Gaby Garton to reduce the deficit to 3-2.
Melina Ayres scored her second to make it 4-2 and clinch all of the points for Victory, but Pollicina showed her quality in the 76th minute, netting on of her four efforts from outside of the box.
