With the start of the Westfield W-League less than a month away, the Westfield W-League clubs and Member Federation across the country will be conducting “Female Football Festivals” for current female participants (as well as their parents).
FFA Head of Community and Women’s Football, Emma Highwood, believes that the “Female Football Festivals” are a fantastic opportunity for grassroots female footballers to connect with their local Westfield W-League players and possibly Westfield Matildas.
“Following the success of the Westfield Matildas at the recent FIFA Women’s World Cup, our elite female footballers have become role models for the next generation of grassroots female footballers,” said Highwood.
“These “Female Football Festivals” allow those young grassroots female footballers the chance to meet and learn from their role models as well as understanding that they can see their stars play for their local Westfield W-League Club.
“Since running the pilot program last year in NSW, we are confident that this first national roll-out will be extremely successful reaching approximately 1400 players.
“Our hope is that all participants go home with life-long memories and maybe one day become Westfield Matildas themselves,” concluded Highwood
The “Female Football Festivals” are a collaboration between Westfield W-League Clubs and Member Federations and will see the Westfield W-League players assist with coaching clinics and conduct signing sessions with current female football participants, aged 5-18 years, as well as their parents.
The coaching clinics will feature elements of the AIA Vitality Miniroos program which includes skills, drills and games.
If you are interested in getting involved in the “Female Football Festivals” please contact your local member federation (Click here for contact details)
