Westfield W-League 2015/16 Round 5 Review

Melbourne City have further extended their lead at the top of the Westfield W-League to eight points after just five rounds of the competition.

The free-scoring City were pushed by Adelaide United on Saturday and this time were restricted to a goal in each half from top-scorer Larissa Crummer and stand-in captain Jess Fishlock.

Earlier, reigning champions Canberra United could only manage a scoreless draw at the rejuvenated Newcastle Jets.

Sunday saw Perth Glory and Western Sydney Wanderers move into an equal share of second with wins over Brisbane Roar and Melbourne Victory respectively.

American midfielder Vanessa DiBernardo scored a spectacular double on debut for the Glory as they secured a hard-fought win in the Fox Sports/ABC TV match.

The Wanderers ended a two-year winless run at home by claiming an impressive 3-1 win over the Victory.

The Westfield W-League resumes next weekend with just three matches, highlighted by Sunday’s Fox Sports/ABC TV match as Adelaide United welcome Newcastle Jets.
