Westfield W-League 2009 Round 6 Preview

Round 6 of the Westfield W-League launches into the second half of the season with another four games of the best women’s football in the country.

Round 6 of the Westfield W-League launches into the second half of the season with another four games of the best women-s football in the country.

This week-s ABC match of the round features the Round 1 and last season-s grand final replay between Brisbane Roar and Canberra United at McKellar Park in Canberra. With Brisbane just coming off an historic 6-0 win over Perth Glory and Canberra looking more and more certain in the run in to the finals, this is sure to be a tight tussle between these two strong clubs.

In Newcastle, the Jets face the Lady Reds, Adelaide United. It-s a fight to rise from the foot of the table as both teams currently sit on one point each. With Adelaide yet to score a goal it will be a great effort for the girls from SA to try and turn their season around. But with HSCs finished, the girls from Newcastle will have their minds completely focused on kick-starting their season and look to make a late charge to the finals.

In Perth a real test is waiting for the Glory girls as they host Central Coast Mariners. Can Perth bounce back from a Round 5 thrashing by the Roar and show they are genuine Westfield W-League contenders or will Central Coast continue with the form that has them sitting firmly in second place?

Finally it-s down to Melbourne where the third placed Sky Blue of Sydney FC faces a determined Melbourne Victory outfit, who currently occupy fourth spot, in their match at Deakin Reserve in Shepparton. A win for either side will place them firmly in Westfield W-League finals contention and both teams will look to impress in front of what looks to be a large and vocal Shepparton crowd.

This is the Official Preview for Round 6 of the Westfield W-League. Please note that squads are subject to change.
