Western United FC face Western Sydney Wanderers in the first of their remaining four fixtures of the Hyundai A-League 2019/20 campaign, with a spot in the Finals Series still well and truly up for grabs.
The Green and Black have more games remaining than any other team heading into the final stages of the regular season; Mark Rudan’s side currently sit outside the top six but three points against the Wanderers will see them take a significant step toward securing finals football in their first Hyundai A-League campaign.
The Wanderers come into the contest with their Finals Series aspirations intact, but only just.
A win over United would ensure Jean-Paul de Marigny’s side keep within touching distance of Adelaide United in sixth place, and keep their faint their post-season aspirations alive.
United and the Wanderers meet for the third time this season, with the Green and Black winning their opening clash 2-1 before a 1-1 draw played out at Bankwest Stadium in Round 11.
Both sides approach the contest on the back disappointing losses after United lost 1-0 to the resurgent Newcastle Jets and the Wanderers conceded three goals to Perth in the last half-hour of their most recent hit-out which ended 3-1 in Glory’s favour.
