Something’s got to give as two of the Hyundai A-League’s most out-of-sorts sides do battle on Sunday as Western United FC take on Central Coast Mariners.
Mark Rudan’s side have seen their finals charge derailed over the last month, winless in their last four matches including their 2-0 loss to Wellington Phoenix last Friday.
The goals have dried up for the Hyundai A-League’s newest club, failing to find the net in the three matches they played in February.
They’ll hope the start of a new month will bring a change of fortune, especially against the rock-bottom Mariners.
Alen Stajcic’s side have lost six on the bounce in the Hyundai A-League, a run that started with a 3-0 loss to United in Geelong in January.
The two sides have enjoyed one win apiece in meetings so far this season. Who’ll come out on top in this one and stop the rot?

Did you know?
- Western United FC have failed to score a goal in their last three Hyundai A-League games. The last time any team went longer without finding the back of the net was the Central Coast Mariners in December 2017 (4 games).
- The Mariners have won only two of their last 33 Hyundai A-League games away from home (D5, L26). In fact, they haven’t won a league match in Victoria since a 2-1 triumph over Melbourne City in March 2014.
- Alen Stajcic’s side have hit the woodwork with nine shots so far this Hyundai A-League campaign, the joint-most of any team in the competition and just once more than Western United FC (8).
