Teen’s ‘surreal’ moment after first A-Leagues goal: ‘Dreams come true’

Western United academy graduate Luke Vickery savoured a landmark moment after scoring his maiden Isuzu UTE A-League goal to help the Green and Black past two-time reigning champions Central Coast Mariners.

Vickery came off the bench and restored Western’s advantage as the high-flying visitors ended their Gosford hoodoo with a 3-1 win over the Mariners on Friday night.

It was an unforgettable night for the 19-year-old, who celebrated his first A-Leagues goal while Western defeated Central Coast on the road for the first time to move up to second in the standings.

“It felt amazing,” Vickery told Paramount+ post-game.

“As a kid you work so hard to make your dreams come true. In an important game, it’s so surreal.

“Me and my parents always watching Central Coast on TV and we always wanted to come here and watch a game just because what a scenic pitch it is.

“To score my first goal, it’s incredible.”
