Football Federation Australia (FFA) has postponed this weekend’s Hyundai A-League 2016/17 Round 7 fixture between Wellington Phoenix and Melbourne Victory at Westpac Stadium due to damage caused to the venue by Monday’s earthquake in New Zealand.
FFA acted after advice from Westpac Stadium and in consultation with authorities in Wellington and both Wellington Phoenix and Melbourne Victory.
“Our first concern is for the safety of everyone involved and from our desire to support Wellington Phoenix, Westpac Stadium and New Zealand authorities in this very difficult time,” said Head of the Hyundai A-League Greg O’Rourke.
“Our condolences and thoughts go to the people of New Zealand who have been affected by this terrible natural disaster.”
FFA will make an announcement regarding the rescheduling of the match at a later date.
