Wellington Phoenix have signed a talented New Zealand teenager and experienced defender from the Victorian NPL ahead of the upcoming Hyundai A-League season.
Scottish-born midfielder Callan Elliot and well-regarded full-back Reuben Way have both inked one-year deals with the club and could make their debuts in the season-opener against Newcastle Jets on Sunday.

With the pair now signed, Phoenix have added four players to their squad over the last week after the additions of Spanish midfielder Mandi and NSW NPL starlet Max Burgess.
“I have always spoken about the mentality of my players and Callan and Reuben both fall into that category,” Coach Mark Rudan said.
“Callan has been with us for a long time and he’s been working extremely hard to earn this spot which he thoroughly deserves.
“Reuben has been a mainstay at a very successful club for a number of years and deserves this opportunity.
“He is the second player we’ve signed from the NPL. I believe in the players at that level who, if given a chance, can shine in this competition.”

Way began his career at Rochedale Rovers before playing for Gold Coast United Youth, Redlands United, Olympics FC and Heidelberg United FC.
Elliot moved to Nelson when he was just seven-years-old and has been a lifelong fan of the Phoenix.
He began his career at Tasman United when he was scouted by former Wellington legend, Paul Ifil.
“Being a professional footballer is something I have always dreamt of,” Elliot said.
“It’s a very special day to have secured this position and I’m very happy to be part of a very talented squad.
“I want to show him [Rudan] what I am really capable of this season and I can’t wait to get started.”
