Louis Fenton’s brilliant Hyundai A-League season for Wellington Phoenix has almost certainly reached a premature end with the club confirming the fullback has broken two toes in his right foot.
The 25-year-old underwent surgery this morning after breaking his second and third toes in his right foot in Wellington’s 4-1 win over Newcastle Jets on Saturday night.
Fenton had to be assisted from the pitch following a big collision with Jets midfielder Ben Kantarovski on the cusp of half time and was later taken to hospital.

His injury soured Phoenix celebrations on the night, with coach Mark Rudan lamenting the Kiwi’s absence post-match.
“It’s a huge loss for this football club, particularly for someone like Louis Fenton who has come from absolutely nowhere to perform and be, I believe, the form fullback in the competition,” Rudan said.
According to a statement from the club, the normal recovery time frame for the injury is 12 weeks.
