Wellington Phoenix will be the entertainers of the Hyundai A-League 2018/19 season if winger David Williams’ warning of an all-out hunt for goals comes to fruition.
The twice-capped Australia international has returned to the local scene after a prolific spell in Hungary and is set to join forces with Roy Krishna and Nathan Burns in a potentially devastating attacking unit.

Teenage playmaker Sarpreet Singh will supply the ammunition for a pacy forward line that Williams believes is ready to bring joy to Westpac Stadium.
“Even if we do lose games, which I don’t want to speak negatively about, they’re still going to be exciting games. We’re still going to throw everything at them,” the 30-year-old said.
“I think we can be winning with a lot of goals.
“We’re going to play attacking football and with the quality we have we’re going to see goals.
“I don’t think there are going to be too many droughts at all.
“Then it comes down to winning points, being exciting in front of the fans, giving the fans what they want to see, and getting their money’s worth.
“I hope we can provide. I think we will with the front line we have.”
While Phoenix could be set to turn on the style, the core of Mark Rudan’s mission has been to instil a resilient attitude.
The more extreme measures have included a brutal military-style boot camp which experienced defender Steven Taylor described as the hardest thing he’s ever done.
Williams is already seeing results in the close bond of a group determined to defy expectations.
“We’re really a friendly bunch of guys, but we still fight on the pitch,” he said.
“We leave it all there and when we come off we can really sit down with each other and have a laugh.
“With the buzz around the changing room in the morning and even the ‘fine system’, we have some funny things that keep us on our toes but also create conversation.
“It’s not going to be an easy season for us, a lot of people have written us off already, but that’s just motivation for us to prove everyone wrong.”
Wellington commence their campaign at home to Newcastle Jets on Sunday.
