Newcastle Jets v Perth Glory

Your support can help the Jets recover from their recent hometown humbling as they face-off against Perth Glory!
Kick off your New Year-s celebrations at Ausgrid Stadium as Newcastle square up against Perth Glory on Saturday afternoon. With similarly inconsistent form, these two teams are fairly evenly placed on the table, so both will be really thirsting after those three points! The Jets will be needing The Squadron-s support to bring home the win they-re after to end the year on a high note, with a second victory of the Hyundai A-League 2011/12 season over their ladder-rivals. So secure a ticket today and be part of the excitement. It-s what Saturday afternoons were made for!
Newcastle will be hoping that they can pull out the kind of performance that saw them overcome Perth the last time these sides met. In Week Five, Newcastle-s Jeremy Brockie got the home side off to the perfect start by impressively putting goals away in the 10th and 11th minutes, much to the dismay of Glory, whose game plan presumably would have involved keeping things tight in the first quarter. Despite a few promising attempts, including a crossbar rattler from Shane Smeltz early in the second half, Perth never quite recovered from the shock of the rapidfire attack and they headed back west after suffering a clinical defeat. However, while The Squadron revelled in the win, there was certainly enough about Glory-s display that day to suggest they will be tough opponents this weekend.
Face to face again as 2011 draws to a close, both teams will be hoping to improve their standing and bring in a win for the new year. The Jets will be especially keen secure a victory this week, as their last home game saw it snatched from their grasp by a determined Sydney FC. Half-time found the home team ahead thanks to a sharp volley from striker Brockie, but, devastatingly for The Squadron, FC managed not only to equalise, but grab the win. Similarly, the West Australian visitors will certainly have a point to prove after a string of recent losses. This time they-ll come prepared, unlikely to be caught off-guard by the Jets early offensive, and it should prove to be a tight match which could go either way.
Home form has proved to be so crucial for Newcastle Jets so far in the Hyundai A-League 2011/12 season, so they-ll be looking to go into the new year with a big win which will set them up for an assault of the top of the ladder. Squadron, your support has been fantastic so far in this campaign, so get along to Ausgrid Stadium one last time this year. Make some noise, be a part of the New Year-s excitement and see if Newcastle will be making good on their resolutions a day early!
