Be a part of an amazing atmosphere at Ausgrid Stadium as Newcastle Jets aim to make it a golden start to 2012!

It’s time for revenge! Newcastle Jets are looking to start their year with a bang. So, Squadron, get along to Ausgrid Stadium on Wednesday and prepare to get behind you players as they aim to begin 2012 as they mean to go on!

Three points here can really get the ball rolling for the Jets in their bid to push towards a play-off place and, as always, your non-stop vocal support is vital. Get a ticket and get noisy!

Not only will a win be the ideal start to January, but it will also be a satisfying way of gaining revenge on the team which subjected them to a shock defeat in Week Four.

Back then at Skilled Park, the Gold Coast deservedly turned the Jets over 3-1. Dutchman Maceo Rigters opened the scoring with his first goal for his new club in the 11th minute a before a second-half finish from veteran Kristian Rees looked to have put the game out of sight. However, Jobe Wheelhouse had other ideas, pulling one back with plenty of time remaining.

It was United that ended strongest though, and they deservedly secured all three points thanks to talented youngster James Brown’s pivotal strike late on.

Jets, though, will consider the scoreline on that day a little harsh. They had plenty of chances and, were it not for some wastefulness in front of goal, could have stolen at least a point. Generally, they are a different proposition when playing at Ausgrid Stadium too, so will fancy their chances of getting the better of United this time round.

The last time these sides came face to face at this venue was over a year ago.

Back in December 2010, Newcastle sent their opponents packing having dealt them a 2-0 defeat, thanks to late goals from Ali Abbas and Sasha Petrovski. The home fans would be more than happy with a similar outcome on Wednesday. Clean sheets have been a pretty rare occurrence in the Hyundai A-League 2011/12 season for a Newcastle side that has been criminally inconsistent, so a tight defensive display would be just the ticket.

Can Newcastle pick up three valuable points or will the Gold Coast head home with an away win? The visitors have already triumphed once against Jets this season and have shown signs of improving form lately, so the hosts will have to be at their very best if they are to win this match-up.

And to be at their best, they need plenty of encouragement from the stands. That’s where you come in! Head along to Ausgrid Stadium and turn it into a sea of red and blue. Squadron – be the twelfth man!
