Melbourne Victory v Gold Coast United
Sunday 27th November 5.00pm
Goals, red cards, penalties! Every Victory home game is a classic at the moment. Don’t miss the next instalment at AAMI Park!
AAMI Park hosts Mehmet Durakovic’s Melbourne Victory for the first time in the Hyundai A-League 2011/12 season this Sunday, and what a vital battle it is, as their opponents are one of only two sides below them in the league.
Defeat is unthinkable. It’s time for Victory to start climbing the ladder at pace, so get a ticket today and prepare yourself to make non-stop noise from first whistle to last. Your support is the envy of most other Hyundai A-League clubs, so use it to your advantage and help your players pick up their second win of the campaign!
While they only have one win thus far, that’s not to say Victory are playing badly at the moment. Indeed, their draw with Perth Glory extended their unbeaten run to five matches.
Only Brisbane Roar have lost fewer games than Durakovic’s troops this season. However, no team has won fewer games either.
With five stalemates in seven games, the Melbourne side are clearly the league’s draw specialists and, for every cracking result – such as the hard-earned point against Brisbane Roar – there is a disappointment, like the last few minutes of Sunday’s home clash with Perth Glory.
Then, a Carlos Hernandez penalty and Danny Allsopp’s close-range effort looked to have put Victory on course for a second win of the season. With Glory having lost their previous three and also down to ten men, it seemed certain the home side would put the game to bed.
However a brilliant free-kick from Andrezinho and a Shane Smeltz header saw the win slip from Victory’s grasp. There can be no such sloppiness on display this Sunday, if they are to go one better.
Gold Coast United will be hoping more than ever that their second clash with a Melbourne side in as many weeks will have a happier outcome this time round.
They arrive at AAMI Park rock-bottom of the ladder after falling last weekend at Skilled Park to Victory’s rivals, Heart. The loss was a club record third consecutive defeat as goals from Matt Thompson and Jonathan Germano did the damage either side of a stunning 63rd-minute free kick from Peter Jungschlager.
It’s time for Melbourne Victory to start winning games, so get along to AAMI Park and show them your ever-fantastic support. While the wins haven’t been forthcoming, the entertainment certainly has.
In the last two home games there have been eight goals, three red cards, penalties, stunning free kicks and late drama. If you like your football drenched in thrills and excitement (and who doesn’t?) then Victory are the team to watch this season. Secure your ticket today and let them entertain you!
