It may have been a sticky start to the season for Melbourne Heart – no wins from five is hardly ideal – but John van ‘t Schip’s side are now undefeated in three games, all of which have been tricky encounters.
They can be pleased at remaining unbeaten from a derby clash, the visit of Sydney and a trip to Adelaide, so the promise is certainly there. The Red and White may still be without a win, but they will certainly be buoyed by their performance in the away draw with Adelaide United last weekend.
Defender Brendan Hamill’s outstanding long distance strike set Heart on the way to a victory that they were just a quarter-of-an-hour from achieving before Spase Dilevski’s equaliser. Disappointing as this was, they did well to prevent the home team from gaining the initiative and taking all three points. A draw, in the end, was a very decent result.

After this, there was no way back for Glory. In fact, Newcastle could have had more, with Francis Jeffers and Ruben Zadkovich giving the Perth back line no end of headaches.
On top of this attacking verve, the Newcastle defence nullified the threat of Shane Smeltz and Travis Dodd. It was a performance that was a statement of intent. The Jets mean business! They have since bolstered their attack by re-signing the previously retired Michael Bridges for the remainder of the 2011/12 Hyundai A-League season.

With the visitors set for a decent away point, Jets snatched a deflected injury-time winner through defender Byun Sung-Hwan. While the loss was hard to swallow, the performance that day will give Heart hope that they can pick up all three points on Saturday.
