Blow away the Christmas cobwebs with a Boxing Day belter! It’s the M1 derby between United and Brisbane Roar!

When, on Boxing Day, you’re looking for an excuse to get out of the house, there is a very simple solution. Get yourself down to The Beach for some thrilling derby action! That’s right, there is Hyundai A-League excitement to be had at Skilled Park on Boxing Day!

What better way is there to cure you of your post-Christmas blues? And what an enticing prospect this particular match-up is, as rivals Roar make up a tough opponent. So, why not make a family day of it? Bring your visiting relatives and bring your friends!

Secure your tickets today and prepare to be involved in the passion and intensity of this fierce local derby!

United will be seeking revenge against Roar on Monday, after losing 3-0 at Suncorp Stadium earlier in the season. In front of a healthy early-season turnout of over 13,000, the home side won the game with goals from Erik Paartalu, Besart Berisha and Mitch Nichols. However, while the scoreline may suggest it was a thrashing, the Gold Coast were actually very much a part of the match for long periods, starting brightly and making the champions work incredibly hard for the points.

A similarly committed display on Monday will certainly give their visitors – whose unbeaten run has of course been brought to an end – plenty to worry about. This won’t be a cakewalk for Brisbane Roar. Reputation and form go out of the window when it comes to derby games.

Indeed, Roar have never won against United at Skilled Park. While last season’s 0-0 draw wasn’t an especially amazing result, it was certainly better than the 5-1 hammering that the Gold Coast delivered on Boxing Day 2009. What The Beach wouldn’t give for a similar outcome two years on!

However, as well as the three-goal margin that Roar won by earlier in the Hyundai A-League 2011/12 season, they have dished out another thrashing in these rivals’ short history. The 4-0 win in February was the perfect way to celebrate winning the league and was, unsurprisingly, viewed by the largest attendance for an M1 Derby. Over 20,000 fans created an amazing atmosphere at Suncorp Stadium on that memorable day.

With plenty of history already between these two rivals, it’s set to be a belting Boxing Day bonanza at The Beach! Both of these clubs are desperate for points for very different reasons, so this game is certain to be the kind of full-blooded affair that you have come to expect from the Hyundai A-League.

Be a part of the drama and the excitement by getting down to Skilled Park. Can United turn the ladder upside down and cause a massive shock or will Roar win the bragging rights? Be there and find out!
