Can the Premiers make a late push to retain their crown? Get along to Suncorp Stadium and Roar Brisbane to a third straight Victory!

With Central Coast Mariners having a serious case of the wobbles with the Premier’s Plate almost in their grasp, Brisbane Roar have found form at the perfect time. In their previous two matches they turned over the ladder leaders and Wellington Phoenix.

Things really couldn’t have gone much better for Ange Postecoglou’s side over the last fortnight, meaning that now they are back in second spot and ready to launch an attack on the summit! So, get along to Suncorp Stadium in numbers and Roar your men to a third straight win!

Even more pleasing for the side from Queensland is that they didn’t concede in either of those crucial clashes against their ladder rivals and that both wins were achieved away from home at very tough grounds to visit. After a 2-0 victory in Gosford, they repeated the scoreline in New Zealand last Sunday afternoon.

Besart Berisha broke the deadlock with a fine finish just before the interval before substitute Mitch Nichols wrapped up the points with a powerful strike late on.

However, this week’s clash won’t be an easy one for Brisbane, as they look to make it three from three. Melbourne Victory arrive at Suncorp Stadium on the back of a four game unbeaten run.

Last week, they showed that, anything Roar can do, they can do too. Goals from Carlos Hernandez and marquee man Harry Kewell marked Jim Magilton’s first win as Victory coach after a bunch of draws. Kewell’s strike was greeted with euphoria from the home fans, and it was especially pleasing because – in happy contrast to how the majority of season has gone – it meant that they won from a losing position. A rarity indeed.

Melbourne have been shipping late goals frequently this season, so to turn the tables against the ladder leaders shows they have the wherewithal to push on and secure a top six spot.

While Melbourne are looking sit somewhere between third and sixth at the season’s end, that is exactly what Brisbane are trying to avoid. Which way will this battle turn out? Can Melbourne make it back-to-back wins or will Roar keep the pressure on the leaders?

Games between these two sides are always absolute belters. Who can forget the 2-2 thriller between Roar and nine-man Victory earlier in the season?

And what about the other game between the clubs this season which, again, saw four goals and non-stop drama as Brisbane struck three times to win the match?

With entertainment of that quality on offer, you simply must get along to Suncorp and be part of another fantastic Hyundai A-League showdown between these exciting sides!
