There has been a date that Adelaide supporters have been eagerly awaiting for a while now. Saturday 7th January is the time when The Reds finally have the chance to lay the ghosts of an horrific evening in Brisbane to rest. Simply, it’s time to dish out some overdue revenge. So make sure you are part of a big crowd as United aim to take the champions down a peg or two!

At the end of October, United found themselves travelling to Brisbane to take on a team that were at the very top of their game. Roar’s performance at Suncorp Stadium that night was the pinnacle of a record-breaking 36-game unbeaten run. It was a stunning display of pure football that will still give Reds fans and players nightmares. And yet the evening had started so well for the visitors, as Dario Vidosic latched onto a clever back-heel pass from attacker Sergio van Dijk and belted one in from distance in the opening few minutes. It was the first time in the Hyundai A-League 2011/12 season that the champions had conceded. A shock, it seemed, might be on the cards. But, emphatically, it wasn’t. Despite falling behind, Roar played with the confidence of a team that had forgotten how to lose. On 21 minutes, it was still 1-0. By the 36th minute, the score was 5-1, with Besart Berisha claiming an astonishing first-half hat-trick in six minutes alongside two cool penalty conversions from Henrique. Berisha netted again in the second-half, before substitute Issey Nakajima-Farran buried a late goal to subject United to a humiliating 7-1 defeat.

Memories of the loss still cut deep, so The Reds are absolutely determined to get their own back on Brisbane this Saturday. A six-goal reciprocal thrashing might be a little too much to expect but Roar are no longer the untouchables they once were, so there is absolutely no reason why, with unabated support and encouragement from the Red Army, United can’t score a much-needed win and further dent the title prospects of Ange Postecoglou’s side.

It’s United’s first home game of 2012 and the performance they put in against Brisbane Roar will surely be the perfect benchmark for the rest of their Hyundai A-League 2011/12 campaign. If they can grab a win, then it could act as a springboard which helps the club climb the ladder and have a say in the end-of-season shake-up. So, get along to Hindmarsh Stadium for this Saturday sizzler. Brisbane Roar made fools of Adelaide United last time the sides met, now is time to get some serious revenge. Let’s make it a big crowd and an intense atmosphere as The Reds aim to hit back!
