Wellington Phoenix finish off Matchweek 22 back on Australian soil, travelling to face Western Sydney Wanderers at Bankwest Stadium on Wednesday, May 26.
The Phoenix ended their 433-day wait to play a game in New Zealand earlier in the Matchweek, notching a convincing 3-0 win over Western United at Sky Stadium.
That result, coupled with the Wanderers’ 1-0 Sydney Derby loss to Sydney FC on Sunday afternoon, allowed the Phoenix to jump above their Wednesday-night opponents on the table. Wellington and the Wanderers are level on 31 points, with the two sides in eighth and ninth spot on the table respectively.
The Wanderers have taken four points from two games against the Phoenix so far this season. The two teams drew 2-2 in Matchweek 9 before a seven-goal thriller in Matchweek 12, in which Kwame Yeboah scored an 84th-minute winner in the 4-3 victory at Bankwest Stadium.
The ‘Nix will be without the injured Ulises Dávila for a third consecutive game as he continues to recover from a hamstring strain. His surging side are looking to extend their current unbeaten run to nine games with a positive result against the Red and Black.
