The wedding can wait: Neville’s Popa premonition comes true

Scott Neville was so confident about Perth Glory’s title credentials when Tony Popovic was announced as their new coach, he changed the date of his wedding.

In a quirky revelation ahead of the Hyundai A-League Finals Series, Neville confirmed he moved the date of his impending nuptials such was his belief Glory would make this season’s Grand Final.

“I didn’t see the dominance coming, but as soon as Tony Popovic was announced I told my dad that I think we’re going to have a very good year this year,” the 30-year-old said in an interview with TAB Radio.

“We actually had our wedding planned for the weekend of the Grand Final, and I obviously told my missus ‘you’re going to have to change that’.

“She said ‘you sure? I don’t reckon after last season’. I said, ‘trust me, you’re going to have to change that’.

“She sent out save the dates, we brought them back in and then another two grand’s worth of little rubbish invites and lucky we changed the date.”

It’s turned out to be quite the premonition from the experienced right-back, with Glory just one win away from reaching the decider.

And they will be hot favourites to get there after a phenomenal maiden season under Popovic, who has led the club to the Premiership, their first ever piece of Hyundai A-League silverware.
