Markus Babbel may have just found the missing piece to his Wanderers puzzle.
The Wanderers have strengthened heavily in the off-season with a raft of top quality defensive signings, but have yet to sign a replacement for prolific striker Oriol Riera.
That could be about to change, as Babbel revealed that an elite foreign striker is on his way to Wanderland ahead of the Wanderers’ FFA Cup Quarter Final against Melbourne City FC.
“I can tell you, we’ve found one,” Babbel told Fox Sports.
“He’s flying in the plane and arriving on Saturday, but I don’t tell you who.
“It’s very important because he’s a really good striker with a lot of experience, a top professional and the special thing is he’s different to what we have.”

In the off-season Babbel lost his two leading goal-scorers in Riera and Roly Bonevacia, who combined for 17 goals last season.
Add to that the departure of creative midfielder Alex Baumjohann and the recruitment of attacking reinforcement became paramount for Babbel before the 2019/20 A-League season.
Already at Babbel’s disposal are Kwame Yeboah and captain Mitch Duke, who would have both been heavily relied upon to burden the attacking load should the Wanderers have failed to find a new striker.
But as Babbel suggested last night his patience in recruitment may just have been worthwhile, as he teased Wanderers fans of an announcement which could come as soon as Saturday of a signing which will change the face of their strike force for the upcoming season.
“I was looking exactly for this type of player and I’m really happy that the waiting was for the right reasons,” Babbel said.
“I’m very happy that we could sign him because for us it’s not so easy to get players that for for the right reason.
“He’s coming because we were talking on Monday with him, on Tuesday he signed and on Friday he’s on the plane.
“He wants to come here, he wants to play for us.”
