Western Sydney Wanderers 1-1 Western United

Markus Babbel’s Red and Blacks were seeking to end a run of five straight defeats and managed to edge ahead through Patrick Ziegler’s goal at Bankwest Stadium.

Western United have become the masters of the comeback and they denied Wanderers at the death when Aaron Calver netted his first goal for the club late on.

Wellington Phoenix 2-2 Sydney FC

It seemed to be business as usual as Adam Le Fondre gave the Hyundai A-League leaders an early lead at Westpac Stadium, but the match had flipped by half-time.

Goals from Rene Piscopo and Ulises Davila tipped the Nix ahead but Sydney’s talisman Milos Ninkovic saved the day from the bench, as Steven Taylor’s own goal tied it up.

Melbourne City 1-2 Melbourne Victory

Ola Toivonen wrote the headlines as Melbourne Victory upset a City side that held a 10-point advantage over their rivals heading into the Christmas Derby.

The Swedish marksman hit a first-half double to dent Melbourne City’s hopes, before the home side hit back through Harrison Delbridge in the second half.

Perth Glory 6-2 Newcastle Jets

Diego Castro and Bruno Fornaroli scored two apiece for the Hyundai A-League Premiers as the revitalised Perth Glory hit the men from the Hunter for six.

The Jets fought back with goals from Nikolai Topor-Stanley and Steven Ugarkovic but Tony Popovic’s charges ran away with the contest in a sparkling display.

Central Coast Mariners 2-1 Adelaide United

Alen Stajcic’s Mariners rose off the bottom of the Hyundai A-League table by stunning Adelaide United in Gosford.

First-half goals from Kye Rowles and Milan Duric did the damage for the Yellow and Navy, as Ben Halloran’s rocket strike proved to be in vein for the Reds.
