Jamie Maclaren’s penalty cancelled out Tate Russell’s first Hyundai A-League goal as Melbourne City and Western Sydney Wanderers played out a 1-1 draw on Saturday night.

20-year-old Russell broke the deadlock with an excellent take early on but Socceroos striker Maclaren ended a run of four matches without a goal to ensure a share of the spoils.

Newcastle Jets have extended their unbeaten run to six games after clinically dispatching Adelaide United 3-0 on Sunday evening.

Roy O’Donovan struck in the closing stages of a tight first-half before Matthew Millar and Steven Ugarkovic wrapped up the points shortly after the restart to secure the Jets just their second away win of the campaign.
