Scott McDonald scored his first goals in Brisbane colours as Roar tightened their grip on a top six spot thanks to a 3-1 defeat of Western Sydney Wanderers on Friday evening.
McDonald broke the deadlock in the third minute and secured a double on 37 minutes, while Mitch Duke hit back for the Wanderers after half time.
But Jay O’Shea netted a 72nd minute penalty to ensure Robbie Fowler’s men finish Round 22 in fifth position.

Adelaide United 1-5 Western United
Western United surged into the top six at the expense of Adelaide United after hammering the Reds 5-1 in their own backyard on Saturday afternoon.
Besart Berisha opened the floodgates on 18 minutes before Riley McGree hit back, but the Hyundai A-League newcomers roared home with goals from Alessandro Diamanti, Max Burgess, Connor Pain, and another from Berisha to inflict a heavy blow on their rivals for the Finals Series positions.

Melbourne Victory 1-4 Sydney FC
Sydney FC trailed early but recovered with four unanswered goals to sink 10-man Melbourne Victory in Saturday night’s Big Blue.
Marco Rojas put Victory ahead on five minutes but Milos Ninkovic equalised on the stroke of half time before Anthony Caceres, Adam Le Fondre and Kosta Barbarouses saw the reigning Champions run away with it against their rivals, for whom Tim Hoogland was sent off.

Central Coast Mariners 1-3 Wellington Phoenix
Wellington Phoenix cruised past Central Coast Mariners to go third on the ladder after their third
straight win.
Liberato Cacace and Gary Hooper goals sent the Kiwis on their way before Jaushua Sotirio iced the result on 79 minutes, with Jair netting a consolation for the Mariners late.

Melbourne City scored three goals in the space of 10 first half minutes before holding out an almighty Perth comeback to go second on the ladder.
Rostyn Griffiths, Florin Berenguer and Markel Susaeta put Erick Mombaerts’ side three goals to the good but they were given a huge scare as Perth launched an all out assault in the second half and drew blood via Joel Chianese and Bruno Fornaroli.
