The Western Sydney Wanderers have arrived back from their WanderTour of Asia with a win, loss and a draw from their three matches.
Encompassing thirteen days in China and Japan the 2012/13 Hyundai A-League Premiers faced Shimizu S-Pulse, Guangzhou G+F and Tokyo Verdy.
A 5-0 victory over Guangzhou G+F was the highlight.
With new players in the squad however and AFC Champions League just around the corner the results were not the main priority.
A high rotation of players throughout the matches as well as exposure to Asian climates ensured the trip provided the perfect groundwork for the upcoming A-League and Champions League seasons.
“This was a very valuable trip both on and off the pitch,” said Head Coach Tony Popovic.
“The new boys got to know everyone and we were able to test ourselves in some tough conditions in preparation for the Hyundai A-League and the (AFC) Champions League.
“We put ourselves through some tough travel, played in difficult conditions with high temperatures and strong opponents which will stand us in good stead for the season ahead.”
To see the impact of the WanderTour firsthand, supporters can watch the Wanderers in action this Sunday September 22 against Adelaide United at Centrebet Stadium.
