Wanderers trialling new striker

Western Sydney Wanderers are trialling former Melbourne Heart and Adelaide United striker Eli Babalj, according to Fox Sports.

The broadcaster reported during the Western Sydney Wanderers clash with Perth Glory that the red and black has the big striker on trial as they desperately search for answers up front.

The Wanderers released striker Kerem Bulut last week and with key forward Brendon Santalab currently suspended, their stocks up front are looking thin.

Babalj, who is a free agent, has endured a roller-coaster few years after leaving Heart (now City) back in 2013 as one of the most talented young players in the Hyundai A-League.

Eli Babalj (Loan Expired) - The towering striker had his season-long loan from AZ ruined by a knee injury. Has returned to Holland.

He moved to AZ Alkmaar and later PEC Zwolle but found himself largely on the fringes.

A return to the A-League last season turned into a nightmare after he ruptured his ACL a year ago this month for the Reds.

But the 24-year-old has been funding his recovery at a renowned clinic in Belgium, and now could be ready to make a sensational return to football with the Wanderers.

The club has also signed midfielder Terry Antonis in recent days.Â
