Midfielder Kearyn Baccus believes the tide is beginning to turn for the Western Sydney Wanderers after a string of positive results has them on track for the Hyundai A-League Finals Series.
Big week for the Wanderers
Tony Popovic’s side pulled off two massive wins last week, starting with the 3-2 AFC Champions League triumph against FC Seoul in South Korea on Wednesday night.
They then backed it up with a dominant 3-1 triumph over Wellington Phoenix in the Hyundai A-League just four days later.
“Two wins under our belt; it was a great week,” Baccus said.
“We’ve been confident since the Adelaide game and hopefully things continue onto this week’s game.
“We’re in a lot better place than we were a couple of months ago but I think things are going to turn.”
Wanderers not there yet
The Wanderers’ first win at Spotless Stadium over Phoenix gives them a five-point buffer over the seventh-placed Wellington with four games remaining in the regular season, starting with Friday’s clash against Melbourne City.
“We’re not complacent. We’re still working hard week-in-week-out,” Baccus said.
“We just have to take things one game at a time and things will happen for us.”
“We’ve played good against [City] so far, we’ve just been unlucky.
“One red card last time we played them; we played with 10 men for the majority of the game. We limited them to not a lot of opportunities which is good but I think there’s a good chance of us coming away with the result this weekend.”
