Experienced pair released by Wanderers

The NRMA Insurance Western Sydney Wanderers today announced the departures of Jerrad Tyson and Chris Herd following the termination of their contracts by mutual consent.

Western Sydney Wanderers have confirmed on Thursday that experienced duo Chris Herd and Jerrad Tyson been released by the club.

The pair have had their contracts terminated by mutual consent.

Herd, who only joined the Wanderers at the start of the 2017/18 Season, has agreed to end his time with the club to be closer to family in the UK.

He made just nine appearances in the Hyundai A-League.

“I would like to thank the Wanderers, the coaching staff, office staff, players and the fans,” said Herd.

“I had a great time at the club and I want to wish my teammates and the club good luck and all the best for the rest of the season.”

Tyson, who is in his second stint with the Wanderers, is a huge fan-favourite among the Red and Black faithful.

He has opted to move on to pursue another opportunity in football.

“Leaving and goodbyes are never easy, particularly when it’s to a club, a group of players, club staff and fans that mean so much to you,” said Tyson.

“The last 12 months have been very difficult returning from injury but the support and care of all those above, in particular my teammates, have made it possible and I’m forever grateful for that.

“As a professional, I’ve always been driven to play at the top level. Now fully fit, my motivation is stronger than ever to achieve this, leading to my decision to leave the Wanderers in search of regular game time.

“Thank you to all who have supported my journey over the last two seasons. A part of me will always be Red & Black and I wish the club, my teammates and the fans all the best in the future.”

The news comes just three days before the Wanderers take on Adelaide United at ANZ Stadium, needing a win to ensure their spot in the Finals Series.
