Western Sydney Wanderers have confirmed the appointment of Mal Impiombato as the club’s new Football Director.
Most recently serving as General Manager of Football at Western United, Impiombato brings over 20 years of football management experience to the Wanderers having shaped programs across multiple Isuzu UTE A-League clubs and national competitions.

Impiombato played a key role in Western United’s Isuzu UTE A-League Championship triumph in the 2021-22 season.
He has previously held senior roles at Macarthur FC, Wellington Phoenix FC and Football Australia, where he led initiatives including the FFA Cup, the National Premier Leagues whilst also being a member of the support staff for the Socceroos at FIFA World Cups 2014 and 2018 as well as the 2015 Asian Cup.

“I’m excited about the challenge ahead and privileged to lead the club’s football program,” said Impiombato, after news of his appointment was made official.
“The Wanderers are built on immense pride, community, and passion, with a deep and unique football identity.
He added: “My focus is to build on the strong foundations already in place and implement a high-performance program that brings alignment across the club and delivers sustained success, something our members, fans and partners truly deserve.”
Impiombato will now work closely with incoming Head Coach Ufuk Talay as they look to shape the club’s football philosophy and roster ahead of next season.

In his new role, Impiombato will lead the club’s football program, overseeing all football operations including elite pathways, recruitment, performance, and alignment across the A-League Men, Ninja A-League Women, and Academy programs.
