Wanderers add Brazilian to attacking mix

Western Sydney Wanderers have announced the signing of 23-year-old Brazilian Vitor Saba on a two year contract.

Western Sydney Wanderers have announced the signing of 23-year-old Brazilian Vitor Saba on a two year contract.

The deal which will see Saba in Red & Black until the conclusion of the 2015/16 season comes off the back of a strong year for the attacking midfielder with Brescia Calcio in Italy-s Serie B.

Familiar with the red and black colours, Saba began his career as a product of Brazillian powerhouse Flamengo, known for producing Zico, Romario and Adriano, working his way through the ranks of the Club-s famed academy before making his first team debut in 2010.

After two seasons in Brazil the pacey left-footed attacker moved to Northern Italian side Brescia Calcio where he made 33 appearances in Serie B and two in the Coppa Italia bagging three goals and five assists.

Although most commonly deployed as an attacking midfielder Saba is also able to play out on the left or as a secondary striker making him a creative and versatile addition to Tony Popovic-s midfield.

“We have been monitoring Vitor since our inception and we-re very happy to have him join the Wanderers in our third season,” said Wanderers CEO John Tsatsimas.

“He is a young, versatile and attack minded player who wants to achieve big things.

“Vitor suits our style of play, he suits our Club culture and he brings a certain x-factor to the team. We are very much looking forward to watching him take the next step in his career with the Wanderers.”

Saba will link up with the Wanderers in the coming weeks to commence pre-season training in preparation for a busy 2014/15 schedule that kicks off with a Westfield FFA Cup tie on 12 August before the Club-s AFC Champions League Quarter Final matches against Guangzhou Evergrande at Pirtek Stadium on 20 August and Tianhe Stadium in Guangzhou on 27 August.

The Wanderers kick-off their Hyundai A-League campaign on Friday 10 October against Melbourne Victory in Melbourne.
