Walker extends Glory stay, Mallia released

Defender Jeremy Walker will continue his stay at Perth Glory, with his injury replacement deal extended this week.

The 24-year-old has acquitted himself superbly since arriving at the club in October, making seven starts and establishing himself as a key part of the Glory defence.

And with Marc Warren not expected to return from his ankle injury until the New Year, Walker will remain at the club for a little while longer.

“Jeremy has really impressed us with his professionalism on and off the pitch,” Glory’s Head of Football Jacob Burns said.

“He was thrown in at the deep end on debut against Newcastle in Round 2, but responded well and has done a terrific job for us ever since.”

But Glory have confirmed winger Mitch Mallia has parted company with the club following the end of his injury replacement deal.

Mallia made six appearances – five as a substitute – and found the net in the Round 8 win over Melbourne City.

He also set up Andy Keogh’s winning goal in the clash with Adelaide United.

But with Joel Chianese now fully recovered from his cracked collar bone, the difficult decision was made to allow the winger to return to his native Sydney.

“It was a tough one because Mitch, like Jeremy, has done really well since he’s been with us,” Burns said.

“But hopefully his performances for us have put him in the shop window and he’ll be snapped up elsewhere.
