It was an enthralling climax to the Hyundai A-League regular season, with some sublime football and even better goals throughout the month of April.
With a stack of sensational strikes we had to leave some stunners out to narrow it down to just seven of the best to be in contention for April’s Goal of the Month.

Ritchie De Laet (Melbourne City)
Round 24 v Brisbane Roar
The Belgian defender has managed seven goals this season but none better than his tracer bullet against the Roar.
Given too much time and space to turn in the middle of the park, De Laet drove forward and unleashed a rocket from 30 metres out which finished up where the spiders live.

Brandon O’Neill (Sydney FC)
Round 24 v Melbourne Victory
O’Neill doesn’t score many goals – but when he does they are normally screamers.
That was the case in the Big Blue at the SCG, with O’Neill using his ‘weaker’ left-foot to hit an unstoppable long-range shot into the top corner.

Riley McGree (Melbourne City)
Round 24 v Brisbane Roar
McGree is no stranger to the Goal of the Month contenders and he was at it again with his moment of brilliance at AAMI Park.
From a tricky angle near the byline, the City youngster showed his class to make space and despatch a delicate chip over Jamie Young into the far corner of the net.

Ola Toivonen (Melbourne Victory)
Round 25 v Central Coast Mariners
The giant Swedish striker is another that seems to regularly score sensational goals and this one was no different.
It was all about teamwork, with Victory producing a flowing, sweeping move that involved James Troisi, Kosta Barbarouses and Elvis Kamsoba which Toivonen finished off in style.

Joey Champness (Newcastle Jets)
Round 26 v Brisbane Roar
How things may have been different for the Jets had Champness been fit for the entire season.
He gave Hyundai A-League fans a reminder of his quality with this incredible curled finish into the far corner in the 6-1 rout of the Roar.

Craig Goodwin (Adelaide United)
Round 27 v Brisbane Roar
No player has been involved in more goals for Adelaide than Goodwin and this was one of his best.
The lightning-quick winger took a sensational first touch past his defender before driving into the box, cutting onto his right foot and rifling a shot into the far, top corner.

Eric Bautheac (Brisbane Roar)
Round 27 v Adelaide United
One of the most talked about penalties of the season. Was it a fluffed Panenka or the cheekiest spot-kick of all-time?
Whatever you think, you have to admire this effort from Roar’s unpredictable Frenchman which totally bamboozled Reds keeper Paul Izzo.
