Mitchell Duke – Western Sydney Wanderers

The Wanderers captain led by example in February to breathe new life into the Red and Black’s 2019/20 campaign.

Duke was typically calm from the spot in Western Sydney’s 3-1 win over Central Coast Mariners on February 2, and it was another penalty from the Socceroo which saw Wanderers share a 1-1 draw with Newcastle Jets on February 15.

Duke put Adelaide United to the sword on February 21, with his double inspiring a terrific 5-2 win.

His crowning moment of the month was his match-winner against Sydney FC on February 28, the second time he had proven to be Wanderers’ Sydney Derby hero this season. That inspirational strike made it five goals in four matches in February for Duke.

David Ball – Wellington Phoenix

David Ball and Wellington continued to impress during February, despite the Phoenix beginning the month with a 4-2 defeat at Perth Glory on February 7.

A crucial home clash with top four contenders Melbourne City next up offered a chance to respond and Ball stepped up to score the all-important match winner in that 1-0 victory on February 15.

Ball delivered another superb all-round display in Phoenix’s 2-0 in over Western United on February 21, icing that result with a cooly-taken stoppage time strike – his fifth of the campaign.

Ben Halloran – Adelaide United

The lightning quick winger has already tallied the best goal return of his career and February was a quality month of finishing from Halloran.

His double led Gertjan Verbeek’s men to a 3-1 triumph over Melbourne City on February 1 and, although the Reds fell 2-1 to Brisbane next up, Halloran’s scorching effort will not be forgotten easily.

The ex-Socceroo played his part in getting Adelaide over the line against Central Coast Mariners on February 14, in a 2-0 win, and added another impressive strike to his monthly bundle with a curling effort against Western Sydney Wanderers in a 5-2 defeat on February 21.

The 27-year-old missed out through injury as the Reds slipped to a 2-1 loss against Melbourne Victory to round off an up-and-down month on February 29 – but it was one where Halloran shined throughout.
