Newcastle Jets boss Ernie Merrick has been voted the Coach of the Month for November.
Merrick, the Hyundai A-League’s longest serving coach, earned the prize after receiving 47% of the vote.
Newcastle were heavily beaten 4-1 by Sydney FC to start the month but responded by holding reigning Premiers Perth Glory to a 1-1 draw the following round.
They then secured their campaign’s first win by beating Western United 1-0 away from home, before beating Western Sydney Wanderers 2-0.
TEAM OF THE WEEK: The best players from Round 9
HOW TO WATCH: Hyundai A-League Round 10
TALKING POINTS: Does Roar demolition job hint this could be Sydney FC’s best ever team?
Steve Corica (Sydney FC)
Corica’s Sky Blues flexed their muscles in November, winning all three matches against Newcastle Jets, Melbourne Victory and Perth Glory.
Their lethal attacking quartet shone brightly in each, with Sydney FC outscoring their opposition 9-3 as their title defence gained some serious momentum.
Gertjan Verbeek (Adelaide United)
Another coach who saw his side go three-for-three in November as the Reds surged up the Hyundai A-League ladder.
The highlight was undoubtedly the 3-1 triumph against fierce rivals Melbourne Victory at a rocking Coopers Stadium.
Ernie Merrick (Newcastle Jets)
While the month started with a 4-1 shellacking against Sydney FC, the Jets were the big improvers in November.
A draw with premiers Perth Glory was followed by back-to-back wins over Western United FC and Western Sydney Wanderers, with young gun Angus Thurgate thriving under Merrick’s leadership.
Erick Mombaerts (Melbourne City)
There wasn’t much slowing down City in November, with Mombaerts’ men winning three out of four matches for the month.
They scored exactly three goals in each of those games, beating both Wellington Phoenix and Central Coast Mariners without star striker Jamie Maclaren, showing the Frenchman’s ability to get the best out of his squad.
