Three Hyundai A-League coaches have been nominated for the December Coach of the Month award.
Steve Corica (Sydney FC), Ufuk Talay (Wellington Phoenix) and Tony Popovic (Perth Glory) are the nominated coaches.
You can have your say and vote for who you think should take out the prize for December by voting in the poll below – but before that, read on for a profile of the coaches.
VOTE: Hyundai A-League Player of the Month – December
Steve Corica – Sydney FC
The reigning Champions remain firmly the team to beat under Corica’s rule and enter 2020 holding a nine-point advantage at the top of the table.
Corica led Sydney to four victories from five matches in December, including a 5-1 masterclass against Brisbane Roar and a remarkable 2-1 win over Melbourne City with 10-men.
And there is still room for improvement for the Sky Blues.
Ufuk Talay – Wellington Phoenix
After four straight losses to start the season, Talay has done more than just galvanise Phoenix’s top-six hopes in December.
Wellington extended their unbeaten run to seven thanks to two draws against Melbourne Victory and Sydney FC, and impressive wins over Adelaide United, Western Sydney Wanderers and Western United.
It has led to some commentators like FOX Sports’ Robbie Slater declaring Talay’s Phoenix the second-best team in the Hyundai A-League after Sydney right now.
Tony Popovic – Perth Glory
Popovic’s Perth found their groove again in December.
The Glory won four straight matches by an aggregate total of 14-2, a streak that began with a 3-0 dismantling of fellow Premiership hopefuls Melbourne City.
A 2-0 win over Western Sydney Wanderers, a 6-2 hammering of Newcastle Jets and 3-0 triumph over Central Coast Mariners followed, and after a tricky start it appears Glory are beginning to gel and now have a platform to mount a pursuit of Sydney.
