Vote for the Hyundai A-League 2017/18 Goal of the Season

There is only one ‘Scorpion King’.

Newcastle Jets midfielder Riley McGree’s incredible goal Semi-Final goal is not only being hailed as the best Hyundai A-League goal ever but being touted as the clear front-runner for this year’s Puskas award for the best goal anywhere on the planet in 2018.

You can’t argue his extraordinary effort is hands down the best goal scored this Hyundai A-League campaign but what about the best strikes from the 2017/18 season?

We’ve come up with 10 nominations for the best goal of the season just gone and it’s up to you to decide which one is the best.

Roy Krishna (Phoenix) – Round 4 v Roar

A clinical counter-attack by Wellington, with Michael McGlinchey’s precise long-ball finding Krishna free on the right.

The Fijian flyer set himself and them from well outside the box hit a powerful, swerving shot which was too good for Michael Theo to keep out.

Daniel Adlung (Reds) – Round 7 v Mariners

The German built a reputation as someone who could strike from distance but none better than this one in Gosford.

After the Mariners failed fully clear an Isaias cross, Adlung thumped a first-time bullet from just outside the box which blazed past keeper Ben Kennedy.

Mark Milligan (Victory) – Round 10 v Reds

Leroy George’s cross found its way through a host of players to get to Milligan at the far post.

The midfielder flicked the ball over Daniel Adlung and rifled a volley into the bottom corner off his left foot. A sumptuous strike!

Bobo (Sydney FC) – Round 13 v Glory

Adrian Mierzejewski released Bobo in behind with a sublime no-look pass.

While it was a tough angle for the Brazilian, he didn’t hesitate having a go, flicking the ball up before volleying it around his body inside the far post.

Milos Ninkovic (Sydney FC) – Round 14 v Jets

After receiving the ball from Bobo just outside the box, the silky Serbian did the rest.

Ninkovic weaved his way through a swathe of Jets defenders, showing remarkable control and balance before calmly dinking the ball over the onrushing Glen Moss.

Matija Ljujic (Phoenix) – Round 16 v Wanderers

After skipper Andrew Durante won possession in the middle of the park, the loose ball fell to Ljujic who did the rest.

The Serbian took a few touches forward before letting fly from well outside the box, with the ball dipping and swerving into the bottom corner of Vedran Janjetovic’s net.

Dario Vidosic (City) – Round 17 v Reds

Nick Fitzgerald played a lofted pass to Vidosic, who controlled the ball with his chest.

It then sat up perfectly for him to fire-off a bullet volley which gave young Reds keeper Daniel Margush no chance.

Ross McCormack (City) – Round 17 v Reds

In one of his final appearances for the club, McCormack marked it with a truly special goal.

Found by Stefan Mauk outside the area, McCormack hit an unstoppable strike which nestled where the spiders live inside the top corner.

Andrew Nabbout (Jets) – Round 20 v Wanderers

After conceding just a minute earlier, Nabbout came up with a swift response…and how!

Combining with Dimi Petratos on the right, Nabbout fired a rocket with the outside of his right boot into the far corner. Simply stunning!

Johan Absalonsen (Reds) – Round 24 v Jets

Adelaide’s great Dane came up with a stunning strike as the Reds demolished a lacklustre Jets side 5-2 at Coopers.

Michael Marrone floated a cross to the far post, with Absalonsen showing wonderful technique to produce a sublime left-footed volley into the top corner.
