Vidosic: Roar lacked heart

Brisbane Roar coach Rado Vidosic believes his side’s performance against Melbourne Heart on Friday night was the worst he has seen from them in more than two years.

Brisbane Roar coach Rado Vidosic believes his side’s performance against Melbourne Heart on Friday night was the worst he has seen from them in more than two years.

Roar slumped to a 4-1 defeat at AAMI Park and now find themselves on the bottom of the Hyundai A-League table with a mere four points from six games this season.

It is the first time in their history that the Roar have occupied last place on the table and Vidosic is struggling to explain what’s gone wrong at the club so far this year.

“Last week we played very well. We lost to Adelaide 1-0, but the performance was very, very good,” Vidosic said.

“But today it looked like we didn’t believe in ourselves.

“We didn’t follow the instructions and there was no heart in our play.

“It was a game that the individuals did all of the playing.

“It was probably the worst performance we have seen from this lot in two-and-a-half years.”

Vidosic said he had plenty of motivation to guide the Roar to a third successive A-League championship, but queried whether his players shared the same belief.

“I am hungry and I want to achieve more, but can they (the players) match my hunger?” he said.

“We have played six games and lost four, so can’t you be hungry with that?

“What do you need to achieve to get this hunger back?

“Whatever they have achieved in the last two years is all in the past, so why wouldn’t they be hungry?

“They have contracts to play for two more years and they all want to go overseas and play for Socceroos.

“Shouldn’t you be hungry enough?”

The performance against the Heart prompted an apology from Matt Smith, but the Roar skipper maintained that the hunger was still there among the playing group.

“If you come to any of our training sessions, or have been around the boys there is no one that can tell me that there is no hunger,” Smith said.

“We are just as hungry as ever.

“We have to go back and be positive, work harder and try and put in a better performance against Sydney (next week).”
