Adelaide United coach Aurelio Vidmar has described Friday night’s 1-0 loss to Perth as a ‘cruel’ result after praising a sensational team performance from his side.
In recent weeks Vidmar’s been critical of his team for coasting through good portions of their 2-0 win over North Queensland and 1-1 draw with Newcastle in the last round.
Vidmar believed his side only played effectively for 30 minutes in both games and pondered what it could achieve if the Reds turned it on right from the word go.
But in an unfortunate twist of fate, despite dominating for long periods and enjoying nine shots on target to Perth’s five, the Reds walked away empty-handed, denied by a sensational performance by Glory goalkeeper Tando Velaphi that laid the platform for Victor Sikora’s 79th-minute goal.
“We dominated the game and unfortunately the only area we didn’t dominate was on the scoresheet,” said Vidmar.
“We haven’t played that well, even last year when we were winning a lot of games, we haven’t played that well.”
“Tonight was outstanding. Everyone was very, very good. Interplay, delivery into the box, everything worked except scoring a goal unfortunately.”
“So the game can be very cruel (but) we’ve still got to stay positive and if we can continue to play that sort of football, we’ll win more games than we lose.”
