Olyroos coach Aurelio Vidmar was upbeat after his team’s loss to China PR on Sunday night, saying the Aussies created numerous chances with Melbourne Victory’s Connor Pain making a strong impact as a substitute.
A headed goal from Dutch-based Travis Cooper wasn’t enough for the Olyroos who went down 3-1 in Wuhan.
“We created a number of great chances in second half and Connor Pain had a very positive impact when he came on but we just couldn’t convert,” he told www.socceroos.com.au after the game.
“I am pleased with the performance, we played some very good football and created a lot of chances.
“The intensity of the first half was very good, we dropped a little in the second half but there are reasons for this.”
The opening line-up for Australia against China PR was:
Aaron Lennox, Mustfa Amini, Cameron Burgess, Travis Cooper, Andrew Hoole, Jamie Maclaren, Stefan Mauk, Steven Ugarkovic, Giancarlo Gallifuoco, Riley Woodcock, Shane D’Cunha.
The Olyroos are in China for a four-team tournament featuring home nation China PR, Brazil and Korea Republic.
The Olyroos’ first game on Friday night saw the Aussies draw 2-2 with Brazil.
Hero of that game was Corey Gameiro who scored the first goal and won the penalty converted by Mustafa Amini.

The Olyroos are now preparing for Tuesday’s clash with Korea Republic.
“Overall we are establishing a good platform to work from and we now prepare for the last match against Korea Republic,” Vidmar added.
