The 32-year-old arrived in Australia with a big reputation and has lived up to the hype for Kevin Muscat’s side.

Honda, who scored on his debut against Melbourne City, has four goals to his name after seven rounds, including the winner in the Big Blue against Sydney FC.

He’s also laid on three assists for his teammates, with Victory currently enjoying a five-game winning streak.

Honda edged out Caltex Socceroos AFC Asian Cup hopefuls Chris Ikonomidis (Perth Glory) and Craig Goodwin (Adelaide United) for the award.

“I’m surprised [by the award],” Honda said.
