Melbourne Victory’s Brazilian star Gui Finkler has signalled he could stay in Australia long-term and obtain Aussie citizenship.
The 29-year-old Brazilian, signed to Melbourne Victory’s roster by current Socceroos coach Ange Postecoglou in 2012, could obtain his residency status next year. By 2017 the silky-skilled attacker could apply for citizenship.
He told Melbourne’s Herald Sun (http://www.heraldsun.com.au) he’s enjoying life in Australia and is contemplating his long-term future in this country.
“With the citizenship it’s the future, we never know, but I never played for the Brazil national team and it’s something [Socceroos selection] that can happen, we never know.
“I’m 29. I try to look after my body. I’ll let you guys talk about it, I just want to play my football on the pitch. It’s something we’d like to think about [extending his contract].
“It’s my third season, I’m going into my fourth season. I want to play as much as I can this season and I really want to win the trophy.
“This would be a reward for our coaching staff and our supporters. I’m really happy right now and I’ll be happier if we win the premiership and the [championship] trophy at the end of the season.’’
Finkler is contracted at the Big V till 2016.
Victory face the Jets tonight (Fri) in Melbourne.
