Melbourne Victory’s have been dealt an early-season blow with confirmation German defender Tim Hoogland is set to miss the first six weeks of the 2019/20 campaign.
Hoogland was a late scratching from the season-opening Melbourne Derby after suffering a quad injury in training last Friday.
The 34-year-old underwent scans over the weekend which confirmed he would be sidelined for more than a month.
“It’s a frustrating setback for him who really impressed us in the lead up to the season,” Victory’s General Manager Football Operations Paul Trimboli said
“However, he’s a determined character and we know he’ll come back fit and firing.”

Hoogland’s absence is a blow for Victory boss Marco Kurz, who recruited the former Bundesliga star for his experience and versatility.
An accomplished central defender, Hoogland also has the ability to play at right-back or in a defensive midfield role.
After last weekend’s 0-0 stalemate against Melbourne City, Victory are at home again in Round 2, hosting Western Sydney Wanderers on Friday night.
The match will be played at Marvel Stadium and kicks off at 7.30pm. You can get tickets HERE.
